the color of one's hair

The color of hair comes in many colors, including black, brown, red, blonde, and white, but these colors are determined by the degree of melanin pigment synthesis, such as skin color. Melanin pigments play an important role in coloring hair and protecting the scalp from excessive ultraviolet rays.

1) Melanin pigment

The pigments of black and dark brown hair are tyrosine melanin pigments, and the pigments of yellow and red hair are phenomelanin pigments. These two types of melanin pigments (granules) are color determined by their size, amount, and synthesis. If the melanin granules are large and there are many, they become black because they absorb light, and if there is little melanin granules, the light is reflected and turned white.

The order with the highest amount of melanin is black>brown>red>blonde>gray hair. The size of the granules is also black on the larger side, and if it is less, it becomes red and brown. These melanin granules are melanoside pigment-forming cells that exist near the mother cells of the father and are oxidized and polymerized according to tyrosine oxidase in tyrosine, a type of amino acid, to form melanin granules.
