At the American Academy of Dermatology in Washington, scientists from McNeil, a manufacturing company of Nizoral, have published a study on Nizoral 1% shampoo. In the United States, 2% Nizoral shampoo can be purchased with a doctor's prescription, and 1% Nizoral shampoo can be purchased without a doctor's prescription. It has been well known that using 2% Nizoral shampoo, which can be purchased without a prescription, helps with male alopecia, but it was not clear whether using 1% Nizoral, which can be purchased without a prescription, can achieve the same effect.

The study was conducted on 100 men with sub-moderate alopecia and oily scalp, divided into two groups: one group was given 1% nizoral shampoo, the other 1% zinc pyrithione shampoo, and the hair was washed 2-3 times a week for 6 months.

As a result of the study, 8.46% increased in the hair scale in the group using nizoral for six months, while 2.28% decreased in the group using zinc pyrithione. (Note - It doesn't mean there's an 8.46% increase in hair, it's an 8.46% improvement based on the hair scale that researchers at McNeil have set.) The sebum secretion rate was decreased by 6.54% in the nizoral-use group, while it was increased by 8.2% in the group using zinc pyrithione. Observing changes in the number of hair falling out over 24 hours a day, 16.46% decreased in the nizoral use group, while 6.02% decreased in the zinc pyrithione use group. Finally, as a result of observing the change in the proportion of growth organ hair among hair on the scalp, it increased by 6.4% in the nizoral use group and 8.4% in the zinc pyrithione use group.

These results are almost similar to those for nizoral 2%. In the previously published Nizoral 2% study, it was found that using Nizoral improved hair condition by 7%. This was similar to the result of using regular shampoo rather than medicinal shampoo while using minoxidil 2%.

Therefore, for those with alopecia, shampooing 2-3 times a week with 1% or 2% nizoral will not only remove dandruff, but also have a positive effect on hair growth. At present, it is not clear whether the use of nizoral has the effect of thickening hair due to the antifungal action of ketoconazole (a component of nizoral) or antiandrogen action. However, it is probably the result of a combination of antifungal actions and antifungal actions of Kenoconazole to be evaluated by Hairlosshelp.com .
