Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd. announces the present status of the research and development on the "EPM*" hair-growth substance that induces the formation of hair follicles (hair roots). (The development of EPM was first publicly announced on February 4, 2002.)

스미토모 전공은 지난 2002년 2월경에 처음 발표했던 EMP, 모낭 형성을 유도하는 모낭 발육 물질에 대한 연구 현황에 대해서 발표했다.

EPM, which is made up of about ten amino acids and is small enough to permeate through human skin, was highly anticipated as a hair growth product that can be applied directly to the scalp. The results of tests on laboratory mice verified that EPM achieved sufficient hair-growth effect. After it had completed the major animal tests which are among the safety tests required for new drug application submission, Sumitomo Electric issued a news release titled "SEI Develops New Hair-Growth Substance that Directly Forms Hair-Growth Tissues" on February 4, 2002.

열가지의 아미노산으로 구성되고 피부를 충분히 침투할 수 있을 정도로 작은 EMP는 투피에 직접 바를수 있는 모발 발육제품으로 높은 기대를 모았었다. 실험실 쥐에 대한 실험결과는 EMP의 모발 육성의 충분한 효과를 입증했다. 새로운 약품 신청을 위해 필요한 안전 테스트에 속하는 주요한 동물 실험들을 끝마친 후에, 스미토모 전공은 2002년에 스미토모가 새로운 모발 생성 물질을 개발했다는 제목으로 뉴스를 내보냈었다.

Sumitomo Electric had been conducting a fundamental research on potency and mechanism of EPM with an aim of commercializing it and applying the technology to the field of biomedicine. However, the research on EPM did not advance to the development stage and Sumitomo Electric suspended the research. Sumitomo Electric is presently sponsoring a course at Kyoto University's Institute for Frontier Medical Sciences, and is expecting that in this course more findings on potency and mechanism of EPM will be made in future. Please note that at this time, the Institute for Frontier Medical Sciences is neither conducting nor planning any clinical testing on EPM. We appreciate your understanding in this matter.

스미토모 전기는 EPM의 효능과 작용기전을 사용화 하기위한 목적으로 연구를 시행해왔고, 그 기술을 바이오 메디슨의 영역에까지 적용하려했다. 하지만, EPM에 대한 연구는 발전 단계까지 도달하지 못하였고, 스미토모 전기는 그 연구를 중단했다. 스미토모 전기는 현재 Frontier Medicine Science를 위해 교토 대학의 코스를 스폰서 하고 있고, 이 과정에서 EPM의 효능과 작용기전에 관한 더 많은 발견이 있을거라고 예상하고 있다. 하지만 이 때, FMS를 위한 연구소는 EPM에 대한 어떤 임상 실험을 시행할 계획이 없다. 우리는 이 점에 대해 당신의 양해를 바란다.
