8월 25일 금요일 흔들리지 않는 믿음 찬송가 363

“주신 자도 여호와시요 취하신 자도 여호와시오니 여호와의 이름이
찬송을 받을 찌니이다”- 욥기 1:21

스콧틀랜드의 작가 월터 스콧트경은 1826년 자신과 관련한 출판사가
파산했을 때 심각한 재정 위기에 처했습니다. 그 출판사에 매우 큰
투자를 하였던 그는 성곽과 같은 저택인 애봇스포드를 포함해서 자신의
재산 모두를 잃을 위기에 처했습니다. 흔들리지 않는 믿음을 가진
그리스도인이었던 그는 일기에 다음과 같이 적고 있습니다. “사태는
내가 염려했던 것 이상으로 악화되어 애봇스포드 뿐만 아니라 다른
어느 것도 건질 수가 없게 되었다. 맨몸으로 왔으니 맨몸으로 떠나는
것이다. 주님의 이름만을 찬송하리라.”

가슴아픈 상처를 남기는 어려움에 한번도 처해 보지 않은 인생이란
매우 드뭅니다. “여인에게 난 사람은 사는 날이 적고 괴로움이
가득하다” (욥 14:1)라고 한 욥의 탄식은 우리들이 늘 겪는 일들을
과장해서 말한 것이 아닙니다.

우리들 중 많은 사람들은 자신이 잃어버린 것과 당하는 고통에 대해
이야기할 때에 어째서 세상에서는 착한 사람들에게 불행한 일들이
일어나느냐고 불평합니다. 그러나 우리들 개인에게 일어나는 고통스러운
일들에 대해 승리자적인 태도로 임하는 것은 이와는 매우 다릅니다.
심한 고난에 처한 사람들에게 진정으로 필요한 것은 고난의 이유에
대해 납득이 가도록 설명해 주는 것이 아니라 정서적 붕괴나 영적
침체에 이르지 않고 끈기있게 이겨나가는 능력일 것입니다. 우리에게
필요한 것은 하나님의 사랑과 지혜를 믿을 수 있도록 해주는 변함없는
자신감입니다 (1:21,2:10).

인생의 쓰라린 곤경 중에서 굳게 버틸 수 있는 흔들리지 않는 믿음을
위해서 기도합시다.

어떤 역경에 처해서도
위축되지 않는 믿음
세상 어떤 어려움 앞에서도
떨지 않는 믿음을 주소서.

한 사람의 위대한 믿음은
종종 어려운 시험을 통과하면서 얻게 된다.

욥기 2:1-10

1 또 하루는 하나님의 아들들이 와서 여호와 앞에 서고 사단도 그들
가운데 와서 여호와 앞에 서니
2 여호와께서 사단에게 이르시되 네가 어디서 왔느냐 사단이 여호와께
대답하여 가로되 땅에 두루 돌아 여기 저기 다녀왔나이다
3 여호와께서 사단에게 이르시되 네가 내 종 욥을 유의하여 보았느냐
그와 같이 순전하고 정직하여 하나님을 경외하며 악에서 떠난 자가
세상에 없느니라 네가 나를 격동하여 까닭없이 그를 치게 하였어도
그가 오히려 자기의 순전을 굳게 지켰느니라
4 사단이 여호와께 대답하여 가로되 가죽으로 가죽을 바꾸오니 사람이
그 모든 소유물로 자기의 생명을 바꾸올지라
5 이제 주의 손을 펴서 그의 뼈와 살을 치소서 그리하시면 정녕
대면하여 주를 욕하리이다
6 여호와께서 사단에게 이르시되 내가 그를 네 손에 붙이노라 오직
그의 생명은 해하지 말지니라
7 사단이 이에 여호와 앞에서 물러가서 욥을 쳐서 그 발바닥에서
정수리까지 악창이 나게 한지라
8 욥이 재 가운데 앉아서 기와 조각을 가져다가 몸을 긁고 있더니
9 그 아내가 그에게 이르되 당신이 그래도 자기의 순전을 굳게
지키느뇨 하나님을 욕하고 죽으라
10 그가 이르되 그대의 말이 어리석은 여자 중 하나의 말 같도다
우리가 하나님께 복을 받았은즉 재앙도 받지 아니하겠느뇨 하고
이 모든 일에 욥이 입술로 범죄치 아니하니라

Agust 25, 2000 Unfaltering Faith Job 2:1-10

The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away; blessed be the name of
the Lord. -Job 1:21

Scottish author Sir Walter Scott faced financial disaster when his
publisher went bankrupt in 1826. He was heavily invested in the firm,
and it appeared that he would lose everything, including Abbotsford,
his castle-like home. A Christian of unwavering faith, he wrote in
his journal, "Things are so much worse than I apprehended that I
shall neither save Abbotsford nor anything else. Naked we entered
the world and naked we leave it. Blessed be the name of the Lord."

A life that doesn't undergo heartbreaking adversity is rare. Job was
not overstating our common experience when he lamented, "Man who is
born of woman is of few days and full of trouble" (Job 14:1).

Many of us talk about loss and suffering and argue about why evil
things happen to good people. But it's quite different to deal
victoriously with the painful experiences that happen to us
personally. What we really need in the teeth of affliction is not
a plausible explanation but the ability to endure without emotional
collapse or spiritual bitterness. We need the sustaining confidence
that enables us to believe in God's love and wisdom (1:21; 2:10).

Pray for an unfaltering faith that stands strong under life's
greatest pressures. -VCG

Great faith is often built during great trials.

Job 2:1-10

1 On another day the angels came to present themselves before
the LORD, and Satan also came with them to present himself
before him.
2 And the LORD said to Satan, "Where have you come from?" Satan
answered the LORD, "From roaming through the earth and going
back and forth in it."
3 Then the LORD said to Satan, "Have you considered my servant
Job? There is no one on earth like him; he is blameless and
upright, a man who fears God and shuns evil. And he still
maintains his integrity, though you incited me against him
to ruin him without any reason."
4 "Skin for skin!" Satan replied. "A man will give all he has
for his own life.
5 But stretch out your hand and strike his flesh and bones,
and he will surely curse you to your face."
6 The LORD said to Satan, "Very well, then, he is in your hands;
but you must spare his life."
7 So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD and afflicted
Job with painful sores from the soles of his feet to the top of
his head.
8 Then Job took a piece of broken pottery and scraped himself
with it as he sat among the ashes.
9 His wife said to him, "Are you still holding on to your
integrity? Curse God and die!"
10 He replied, "You are talking like a foolish woman. Shall we
accept good from God, and not trouble?" In all this, Job did
not sin in what he said.
