리쳐드 리박사는 일반적으로 배출하는 정액의 750배에 해당하는 양이 있어야
섹스 파트너의 DHT 레벨에 어떠한 영향을 미칠 가능성이 있다는 것이 동물 실험
(원숭이)에 의해 확인됐다고 합니다. 리박사 자신이 피나스테리드를 복용하는
100여 커플의 출산을 보아왔지만, 기형은 나타나지 않았다고 합니다.
또한, 프로페시아가 초기에 출시될 때는 임신에 대한 경고문이 있었지만,
이 경고에 대한 근거가 없었고, 최근 판매되는 프로페시아에는 임신중인
여성이 프로페시아를 먹거나 만지지 말라는 정도의 문구만 있다고 합니다.
이러한 문구도 머크사가 의술적/법적 문제를 막기 위해서 그런 것이지
실제적인 충고는 아니라는 겁니다.
참고로, 남성이 미녹시딜을 바르는 것도 임신 문제에는 영향이 없다고 합니다.
그런데, 만일 제가 임신 문제를 고민해야하는 때가 온다면, 약을 잠시
중단할 지는 잘 모르겠습니다.

"Dr. Lee, Do you have any recommendations for the use of Propecia while my wife and I are trying to concieve a child. A friend of mine claims that his family physician told him not to take it while trying to concieve or during his wife's pregnancy, due to a specific birth defect to male offspring. I have read some of the websites and all I can find pertaining to this is that females who are pregnant should not handle broken finasteride tablets, for fear of absorption thru the skin. I found no information on using finasteride during pregnancy, ie.. absorption of finateride by a female by way of her husbands sperm. Have there been any cases of birth defects reported by someone using finateride before or after conception? Your thoughts."
Dr Richard Lee, MD: "When Propecia was initially dispensed, the package insert included a warning against conception while the potential father was using this drug. There was no rationale for such a warning. The current package insert simply states that women should not take Propecia or handle the drug while pregnant. Research studies show that the absorption rate of finasteride is 750 times lower than the no-effect rate tested on Rhesus monkeys. This means that it would require more than 750 times the amount of semen in the normal volume of an ejaculate for finasteride to have any possible effect on the DHT level of your sex partner. So, you can put your fears to rest. There is no correlation between finasteride use by the potential father and birth defects. While it is known that women who have a congenital 5-alpha reductase deficiency can give birth to a male child with hypoplasia of the external genital tract (pseudohermaphrodite), it has not been reported even by women taking finasteride to reduce DHT. I have had almost one hundred normal childbirths reported among my patients, where the father was using finasteride at the time of conception. The warning in the package insert for Propecia in regards to women refraining from handling broken tablets of Propecia is to prevent medical/legal problems for Merck & Co., not because it is practical advice."
